  • A test given by the teacher in order to measure the level of student understanding of material already taught. Low scores obtained by students in doing the tests showed the difficulties experienced by students in doing mathematics problems. Study habits is the tendency of students to act in an orderly and active, which is relatively settled and done many times in the activity of learning. This study aimed to determine (1) Difficulties experienced by students in doing math problems on material lines and angles, (2) How is students learning habits of class VII SMP Negeri 2 Batu. This research is a qualitative description. This research was carried out in SMP Negeri 2 Batu on 7 - 24 of May, 2010 with using tests and questionnaires method. Based on the results of this research concluded that: (a) 69.69% students of class VII in SMP Negeri 2 Batu experiencing difficulties in language and reading (difficult to understand the story questions and bring them to the concept of mathematics). In addition, the percentage of students' difficulties in doing math problems caused by abnormalities in the visual perception of 51.56%, the difficulty of knowing and understanding the symbols of 41.75%, perseverance 30%, and the percentage of spatial relations disruption of 17.62%, (b) 63.75% students of class VII in SMP Negeri 2 Batu has normal average learning habits, while the other 36.75% of students have good learning habits. The results of this research may be used by teachers as a consideration to provide appropriate assistance to students in overcoming difficulties in doing math problems. For students, it is expected that the results of this research can be used as consideration to prepare and determine the appropriate steps in learning in order to minimize the learning difficulties experienced by students. For further researchers expected that the results of this study can be used as information to conduct further studies in apply the learning so that students do not experience difficulties in learning and doing math problems.
