  • This study aims to analyze the profitability of Conventional Banks and Islamic Banking in Indonesia as well as describing the significance of the profitability of Conventional Banks and Islamic Banking. The data were analyzed secondary data from financial statements of each of conventional banks and Islamic banks. The data used are the financial statements of the financial period 2007-2010. After passing through the stage of purposive sampling, the samples of conventional banks and Islamic banks respectively as two banks, two conventional banks (Bank Mandiri and Bank Mega), and 2 Islamic banks (Bank Syariah Mandiri and Bank Syariah Mega).The method of data analysis using descriptive statistical approach and statistical tests Independent Samples T-test. The results of the analysis of the profitability of conventional banks and Islamic banks as a whole shows that the level of profitability is better than conventional banks in terms of ROA, ROE, and NPM, whereas Islamic banks in terms of ROA ratio statistics mean. Based on the results of statistical tests Independent Samples T-test there are differences in profitability between conventional banks and Islamic banks as indicated by the significant value of the Independent Samples T-test shows that t count to NPM using the Equal variances assumed is 3.635 with a significance of 0.002. Therefore sig. t_hitung< t_tabel (0.002 <0.05), the H_1 acceptable can be concluded that the NPM seen from the ratio of the level of profitability of Islamic Bank Conventional Bank with a significant difference and t count for the ROA using Equal variances assumed is significant at 3.413 with 0.003. Therefore sig. t_hitung< t_tabel (0.003 <0.05), the H_1 acceptable to say that when seen from the level of profitability ratios ROA Conventional Banks with Islamic Banking there are significant differences.
