- All parents expect their children to achieve high academic achievement for children to enter in the class. And with a high learning achievement of children can continue kejenjang public universities in want. But in reality many parents who are unable to provide the maximum attention to their children. This is because the routine of parents who are very dense so that parents spend more time outside the home than inside the house. So that a child feels lonely in the house, this is what makes a child more often seek care outside the home by spending time with friends than do homework (work house) or home study. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between effective communication within the family and academic achievement in children III SMU Negeri Malang. This research was conducted on December 12 to 15 September 2005 at the school SMU Negeri Malang III with sample are children of SMU Negeri Malang III as much as 98 children. The sampling using cluster sampling. The research instrument used is effective communication scale for achievement while learning to use the data documentation are owned by the school report card value. Analysis method used is the technique of product moment with the help of SPSS (statistical program for social science), version 10.0. Based on the analysis of the data obtained can be seen that there are positive and highly significant relationship between effective communication and academic achievement in children III SMU Negeri Malang by obtaining r = 0.286 and p = 0.004. It means that more effective communication between parent and child so the higher the academic achievement, and conversely the less effective communication between parents and children, the lower academic achievement.
