  • Writing is a difficult task because it requires special skill to produce a composition. In the teaching and learning English as a foreign language writing is regarded as a very complex language skill in which students face many problems to improve their skill. Therefore, teachers should find out some techniques or media that can students overcome the problem. In line with the above condition, this research was conducted in order to make a better condition of the teaching and learning of writing through the implementation of picture series. Picture series is one kind of media that is used to help students in constructing ideas to compose a good recount paragraph. Through the implementation of picture series to write recount paragraph, it is expected that the students’ ability in writing can be improved. Therefore, the objectives of this study are to investigate the implementation of picture series in improving students’ writing ability. This research applied Classroom Action Research in two cycles. The subjects of this study were 38 students of eight graders in SMPN I Dau. The data were gathered from observation sheet, and writing test. From this research, it was concluded that the students’ ability in writing recount improved after the implementation of picture series in the class. It could be seen in the improvement of the average score from 61, 184 to 75, 52.
