In this study, researchers interested in the movie King Kong by Peter Jackson, who tells of a giant gorilla that has fallen in love with a wanita.Yang then its existence is known by a group of irresponsible people, and separated from their habitat. From the story narration, the film has a lot of social messages to be delivered, which can be seen on the elements of visualization, including characterizations of characters that were created. And also in this movie there are many cultural elements that will represent the contemporary social reality. The film is a complex language that adhere to certain rules, which are determined by a variety of signs that the various (montage, position, music, sound, character figures, danlain forth). The film formed by the narrative techniques, which are also grouped by the possibilities of techniques that can enhance the value of reality on film. Latent meaning interpreted as meaning that are not visible. In a film shown many meanings that are not visible are packaged in a variety of signs. Characterizations can be called a sign of character. Because the character is an interpretation of a background of behavior that exist in a person as a individual or individuals who represent a group. In the film text, the character is a form of ideology or reality writers, who work not only on the content aspect but also on aspects of form. Because the ideology operates not through direct expressions, then he never looked like a direct statement. In other words, ideology hiding in narrative structure, the codes, conventions, and the images (images) are built through a filmic language. Semiotics can be defined as the study of the wide range of objects, events, all cultures as a sign. Semiotics is used in this research is semiotics Pierce and Barthes. The methodology of this study is qualitative by using method of Charles Sanders Pierce's semiotic analysis that takes into account elements of the sign is, indices, icons, symbols, which then dimaknakan the denotative and connotative without prejudice to existing Myth (Roland Barthes) to obtain a picture or a general sense and relative thoroughly covers the problems under study. The focus of his research, among others, the character figure which is considered representative of the meaning of the latent as well as other visual elements such as, angle, setting, lighting and audio such as dialog, sound effects. Based on the formulation of the problem as stated in the semiotic analysis of latent meaning of the film King Kong through the representation of the character of characterizations, are as follows: construction of latent meanings that are represented through the character figures give more meaning in the form of icons and indices, which represent the character of society and lifestyles in reality social city of New York in 30's. Meanwhile, signs of a related form of syntagmatic and paradigmatic in character figures are part of the background events that take place in the film: the people of New York in 30's is an ambitious community in achieving a better life. This is the myth of past events. The film is also a form of criticism will ideology, displayed a few groups in which social class, as if to show the strong will get stronger.
