- Press is an institute that doing journalistic activities. The doers of the Press called Journalist. Journalist is a kind of profession, than by that, it bound to journalistic codes of ethic, especially the Journalistic Codes of Ethic (JCE) which is stipulated by Press Council that is prevails nationally. Infotainment is a kind of journalistic show, and forms a part of Press. In the realization of infotainment, there is being expected of an infraction to the 9th article of JCE by the infotainment journalist. The article is: “Indonesian journalists give honors to resource person’s rights of their personal life, except for public interest.” Infotainment journalists are includes field journalist and the Press firm that products infotainment. Personal resource is person who gives information directly to the journalist. Personal life is one’s life and his/her family, which has no connection with the public interest, includes physic, mental, social, managerial, sexual, etc. Public interest is an interest that must have priority over the others interests proportionally and still appreciate that other interest. In the realization of infotainment show, there are several related sides which have their own interests. Such as journalist, Press firm, broadcast institution, and audiences community. Among those interests, the public interest is the audiences community, that means it has priority over the others, because public have rights to getting proper information based on the human rights. So, infotainment can break the right of one’s personal life just if it brings benefit and fulfill public’s rights. The form and the procedure in giving consequences to this infraction to the 9th article of JCE is reclusive characterize. But for the side who feels suffering, there are some settlement effort that can be doing, that is right of respond and complaint to the Press Council.
