  • Avian influenza is a zoonotic disease caused by type A influenza viruses of the familyOrthomyxoviridae. The disease can be transmitted through inhalation, direct contact or indirectcontact. Direct transmission through blood is not widely known yet as influenza viremia because it isvery small. As long as the time,viremia symptoms may occur symptomatic and asymptomatic. Thisstudy aims to analyze the differences between antibody subtype H5N1 Avian influenza virus usingserum and plasma of blood donors at PMI Surabaya.This type of research is a descriptive study with a qualitative analysis method. The sample whichused in this study were 50 blood donors at PMI Surabaya. Serum and blood plasma were taken fromeach donor and will be analyzedbyHaemaglutination method (HA) and Haemaglutination Inhibition(HI). This study used the technique of quota sampling, is sampling which obtainedwithout certaincriteria until the desired number of quotas are completed. This research was conducted in theLaboratory of the Ministry ofPoltekkes Kemenkes Surabayaon February 2014 until June 2014.Based on the results of the Haemaglutination Inhibition (HI) using serum and plasma samples,it wasnot revealed any antibodies avian influenza virus subtype H5N1, so it can be concluded that therewas no difference in antibody subtype H5N1 Avian influenza virus using serum or plasma donors atPMI Surabaya.Keywords: Avian influenza, serum, plasma
