  • Post partum is the period when the placenta has been expelled to the reproductive organs such as before pregnancy and the recovery period is approximately 6 weeks. One of the problems that arise in post partum mothers is breast swelling pain. The occurrence of breast swelling is characterized by hot and hard breasts on the touch of pain, milk production is sometimes blocked by narrowed lafetiferian ducts, swollen breasts, hard and hot, painful when pressed, reddish in color. The purpose of this study was to understand and apply the action of warm compresses to acute pain of breast swelling. Methods of data collection is done by observation, interviews, and literature study. The results of the intervention on Mrs. J after a warm compress for 3 days showed a change in the acute pain scale in the breast with the previous pain scale from 5 (1-10) to 2 (1-10) measured by the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). It can be concluded that the application of warm compresses has an effect on reducing the pain scale experienced by post partum mothers with acute pain of breast swelling. Warm compresses are effective in reducing acute pain of breast engorgement and warm compresses can be an alternative for someone who has acute pain of breast engorgement which is often annoying. For further researchers, it is hoped that they can help and make reference materials in the writing process to apply warm compresses to the acute pain of breast swelling in postpartum mothers.
