  • DEVI MARHAMAH. Potency of Brotowali Stem Ectract as Anti-Inflammation Against to Burn in Mice. Guided by RENI MULYANI and DIKDIK MULYADI. Brotowali (Tinospora crispa L.) is a plant of menispermaceae family with chemical compounds involve apigenin, berberine, columbin, -sitosterol, and saponin that has been proven to have antiinflammatory activity. The purpose of this study was to analyze the potency of brotowali stem extract and the variations effects in the formulation on burns in mice. Stem brotowali was extracted using maceration method with methanol 96% and formulated into 10 grams of ointment preparation with brotowali stem extract is 1,3,5,7 and 9 grams with white vaseline as ointment base. Evaluation of preparations involve TPC (Total Plate Count) and physical properties tests including homogenity and organoleptic tests consisting of shape, texture, color, odor and pH through by visual observation during 8 weeks. The antiinflammatory activity by in vivo tests with applying the ointment preparation to body of mice that injury intentionally using hot iron and observed until healing occurs. The TPC test showed no microbial contamination (bacteria) in the preparation as indicated by a TPC value of 0 CFU/g. The results of the organoleptic test showed that there was no change in shapes, texture, colour, odor and pH during observation so that the preparation was stable. Antiinflammatory potential analysis with notice the burn after treatment by various concentration. The result showed the presence of skin regeneration where the injury becomes dry and closed. The optimum formulation for healing burn is extract weighing 7 grams (F4) and 9 grams (F5) with healing time of 9 days.
