  • The purpose of this research is to describe the steps of discovery learning in writing poetry and writing results before and after implementation. Research location is conducted at MTs Negeri 1 Sukabumi school year 2019/2020. The research methods used are experimental methods. The research procedure was conducted with three stages, namely the initial test of writing poetry, implementation of discovery learning and the final test of writing poetry. The sampling techniques used are purposive sampling based on the characteristics and recommendations of the teacher's Indonesian language.The selected sample is five grade VIII student. The results of this research show that the implementation of discovery learning in learning can be done with the following stages, namely: 1) Preliminary learning with the delivery of learning objectives of writing poetry; 2) Formation of learning groups; 3) The stimulus of poetry text facilitated by the teacher; 3) to decode the problem of creative process of writing poetry; 4) Collecting data from various sources regarding the creative process of writing poetry; 4) Process the data obtained with the guidance of the teacher through the creation of the puist text; 5) convey the results of the discussion, and 6) concluded the creative writing process of writing poetry.The results of writing there is a significant increase of the average initial test of 76 to 82.
