- The nursing in Indonesia, in the future time, requires to gain the main priority in the development of nursing services. It closely relates to the profession and global demands, remembering that each development and change requires professional managements. Motivation is one of key factors that influences the nursing service professionalism. Motivation is going to become a problem when the ability owed by the nurses is not used and developed in conducting their jobs. Motivation is also influenced by the one’s sense of being satisfied towards his or her job. The research was aimed at improving the nurse performance by identifying the correlation between the work satisfaction and the work motivation of nurses in RSU PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul. It used the descriptive method with the cross sectional approach. There were 48 respondents as the samples in this research by using total samples technique. The research instrument used closed questionnaires. The data collection method was through questionnaires which the validity and reliability were examined before. The data analysis to find out the correlation of work satisfaction and work motivation of nurses applied the formula of the Kendall Tau correlation (t ). The result of the Kendal Tau measurement gave a conclusion that there was a significant correlation between the work satisfaction and work motivation of nurses in RSU PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul year 2008 with the medium type of correlation which was showed by the value of t : 0,546 with the significant level of 0,000 which was smaller than 0,05.
