  • Nursery, as a form of service, is integrated to health services so that the profession of nurses should maintain efforts in order to be able to perform professional nursing. The success of hospital services will be determined by work environment in which it becomes one factor of work performances. A conducive work environment will enable nurses perform better services so that it will lead to work satisfaction among nurses. The research is aimed to improve the quality of nursing services by finding out the relationship between work environment and nurses’ work satisfaction in inward room using functional method in Bantul Regional Hospital of ‘Panembahan Senopati’ in 2008. This is a non experimental research using survey method and cross sectional approach. The samples consisting of 28 respondents were obtained using total sampling technique with inclusion and exclusion criteria, while the instrument used was questionnaire and checklist. Meanwhile, the analysis used to test the hypothesis was Kendal Tau using SPSS program for window series 11.5. The finding shows that most of nurses’ work satisfaction belongs to satisfied category (46,43%), and work performance shows fair category (60,71%). The statistical result shows that there is a positive correlation between work environment and nurses’ work satisfaction with ? 0,885. The better the work environment, the more satisfied the nurses’ work satisfaction.
