BUZZ GROUP TECHNIQUE IN STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL

- The research focused on the use of Buzz Group Technique to improve students’ speaking skill. The research method was Classroom Action Research and it was conducted in two cycles. In collecting the data, the researcher used interviews, observation, field notes, questionnaires, and test. After collecting the data, the researcher analyzed the qualitative and quantitative data. To analyze the quantitative data, the researcher used a descriptive statistic, describing the highest and lowest scores and means. To analyze the qualitative data, the researcher used constant comparative method. The finding of the research show that using Buzz group can improve: (1) students’ speaking skill: (a) students were able to talk with better pronunciation; (b) students were able to construct sentences in correct grammar; (c) students were able to speak fluently; (d) students were able to choose suitable words for talking. The improvement can be seen from the students’ score in the pre-test, in the post-test I, and in the post-test II. The mean of pre-test scores was 53.63, the mean of post-test I scores was 62.38, and the mean of post-test II scores was 73; and (2) the students’ responses: (a) the students enjoy the teaching and learning process; (b) the students were more confident to talk; (c) active groups were created. The research showed that there is an improvement in students’ speaking skill and in the students’ responses. It could be concluded that applying Buzz group, the teaching speaking become more active, interesting, and effective. The researcher suggests to other researchers to develop other points which can be obtained from using Buzz group in improving the students’ speaking skill.
