THE IMPLEMENTATION OF OPEN-INQUIRY APPROACH TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ LEARNING ACTIVITIES, RESPONSES, AND MATHEMATICAL CREATIVE THINKING SKILLS

- The objective of the present investigation was to reveal the improvement of the students’ learning activities, responses, and mathematical creative thinking skills (MCTS) through open- inquiry approach (OIA). The previous studies tend to focus on guide research in mathematics learning, especially in Indonesia context is much less applied OIA. This study conducted at State Junior High School in an Indonesian setting. The method used in the recent investigation was the Classroom Action Research (CAR) which consists of four stages, namely: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Data collected through observation, journals, interview, and the last one was the test. The results of the recent research revealed that the implementation of OIA could enhance the students’ MCTS. This finding is shown by increasing the average of students’ score from 73.05 to 78.95 in the first cycle to the second reporting period. The increasing of MCTS above meant which indicated by some aspects which cover: fluency, flexibility, and originality. Also, the results also showed that in general, the students have a good both at responding and learning activities during the intervention of OIA. It can be summed-up that the implementation of OIA can enhance learning activities, give a positive response towards mathematics and improve students’ creative thinking skills.
