The impact of using video on student' writing competence and their motivation in writing analytical expositiontext (A Pre-experimental Study at the Eleventh Grade Students of MA Jam'iyyah Islamiyyah in Academic Year 2017/2018)

  • This study is aimed to know empirical evidence about the difference on students’ writing competence and their motivation in writing analytical exposition text before and after being taught by using video at the eleventh grade of MA Jam’iyyah Islamiyyah academic year 2017/2018. The sample of this study is 24 students in the XI Science 1 class. Base on the purpose above, pre-experimental study was conducted by the writer. Research instruments that was used to collect the data are test and questionnaire. The research instruments were used to conduct pretest-posttest of writing test and questionnaire. The writing test was applied to gain writing score and the questionnaire was used to know their motivation. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were applied to analyse all of the data. In obtaining writing pretest and posttest, the writer used t-test formula. While to see the students’ motivation progress, the Wilcoxon Test was applied. After all of the data had been calculated, the results were found. The mean of pretest was 54.54 and for the posttest was 74.95. The result of t-test was -t score was obtained -11.345 and t table based on df = 23 is -2.069 (-11.345 ≤ -2.069) or value of significance ρ value (2- tailed) < 0.05. It means that Ha was accepted while Ho was rejected. Thus, video usage has had an impact on students’ writing competence on analytical exposition text. Then, the result of wilcoxon matched- pair rank test showed Z score (2.390) > Z table (1.645) and Asymp. Sig was 0.017 or < 0.05. This could be concluded that the using of video has had an impact on students’ motivation in writing analytical exposition text at the eleventh grade students of MA Jam’iyyah Islamiyyah, Jurangmangu Timur, Pondok Aren.
