- This research was conducted with the aim to improve students' narrative writing ability by implementing collaborative writing on Google Docs application. The Subject of this research was X IPS 2 class of SMAN 87 Jakarta which consisted of 36 students. The classroom action research design which developed by Kurt Lewin was used and conducted in two cycle. In each cycle, there were four meetings that should be conducted step by step. Based on Lewin's design, the steps of Action Research were planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The data were obtained through qualitative and quantitative methods. To gather qualitative data, the instruments used were interview, observation sheets, and field notes. Whereas, to gather quantitative data, the utilized instruments were test, rubric, and questionnaire. After analyzing students' progress through these instruments, the result showed that their participation in following the lesson increased gradually. The indication can be seen on how they learned to build good communication when finishing collaborative narrative writing project on Google Docs. From this activity, the process of helping each other, sharing and exchanging ideas took place and it impacted on their individual narrative writing. To measure their improvement, the writing test was conducted. Before the action study, the students carried out a pre-test and the data showed that the students who passed the criteria minimum mastery were only 8 or 22.22%. The number was increased in the post-test one became 13 students or 36.11%. In the post-test 2, the number grew significantly became 27 or 75% in total. In conclusion, Google Docs is compatible to support students' writing collaboration activity though they are separated by distance. Moreover, it also can be used to improve students' communication which also leads to the improvement on their narrative writing ability.
