- The objective of this study was to find out the effect of QAR strategy towards reading comprehension on narrative text at the eight grade students of SMPN 3 Tangerang Selatan. The samples of this research were the eight grade students of SMPN 3 Tangerang Selatan. They were class 8.2 as the experimental class and class 8.1 as the controlled class. Each class consisted of 30 students, with 15 male students and 15 female students. The method used in this research was a quantitative method. The design used was quasi-experimental study. The instruments of this study were tests, interview, and observation. For sampling technique, the writer used purposive sampling. In addition, to attain the validity and reliability of the instrument, the researcher used ANATES. Further, the calculation of this research was conducted though SPSS 22. The result of the study was that post-test mean score of experimental class was 71.33, while post-test mean score of controlled class was 66.66. It meant that there was significant differences between both classes mean post-test score. The test of hypothesis showed that sig. 2 tailed (p) was 0.023 while alpha (α) was 0.05. In other words, p < α. It meant that the H0 (Null Hypothesis) was rejected and Ha (Alternative Hypothesis) was accepted. It proved that using QAR strategy was effective in the teaching of reading comprehension of narrative text. The result of Muijs formulation was 1.67. It meant that the effect of treatment was strong. Moreover, this result was also supported by the result of qualitative data. The qualitative data in this research was obtained from interview and observation. Based on the result of qualitative data, QAR Strategy had helped the students in four things; to improve students’ reading comprehension, to increase students’ curiousity of the content of passage, to increase students’ ability in using one of higher order of thinking skill (connecting), and to enrich students’ vocabulary.
