  • Communication in the medical discipline is the basic criterion of clinical skills of clinical competence of a doctor, along with clinical knowledge, ability to solve problems and physical examination. Skills of medical doctors in doctor patient communication in Indonesia has not been much studied. This study aimed to identify DPC knowledge and skills and factors that influence it. The study design was cross sectional involving 93 physicians in three regions in Indonesia. Subjects were assessed by their knowledge level using 20 multiple choice questions. Skills were assessed through videotape consultations with simulated patients and the standard scenario. It was found that more subjects had low knowledge and skills. There were no significant factors influencing the knowledge and skills. Serious efforts from various stakeholders to enhance the knowledge and skills for doctors in Indonesia DPC are needed.Keywords: Doctor Patient Communication, Knowledge and skills, Indonesia
