  • Introduction Until recently, infection remains a major cause of neonatal mortality and morbidity in newborn infants. Gold standard diagnosis of sepsis is blood culture, but not all medical facilities are able to perform blood cultures. Thus, inspection of septic markers such as C-reactive protein (CRP) is still needed. The purpose of this study was to determine the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy values of CRP in the diagnosis of sepsis. Methods The study was a cross-sectional study of nature descriptic-analytic and performed at the Hospital Unit Perinatologi Abdul Moeloek Lampung. Examination of blood culture as gold standard, septic inspection markers, and CRP performed on infants who showed clinical symptoms of sepsis. The study was conducted from June 2010 until December 2010.Results From the result, 81 infants who met the inclusion criteria and exclusion were obtained. Sensitivity CRP value was 71%, the specificity 62%, and the accuracy is 68%.Conclusion Examination of CRP may be an alternative investigation for patients suspected of neonatal sepsis.Key word: CRP, sepsis neonatorum, sensitivity and specificity.
