  • Background: Hypertension contributes for 50% stroke cases around the world. Recurrent stroke is common problem in stroke but the cause is still not fully understood. There is a need to explore the relationship between different risk factors, one of which is uncontrolled hypertension, and recurrent stroke so that prevention measures can be implemented. Aim: To determine whether uncontrolled hypertension is a prognostic factor on predicting the recurrent stroke. Methods: A structured Pubmed and Proquest search was conducted. Screening of 164 articles using inclusion and exclusion criteria was followed by selecting articles that matched the clinical question. Two full text articles were considered useful and were critically appraised for validity, importance, and applicability. Results: Based on both studies, uncontrolled hypertension is regarded as one of the prognostic factor on predicting recurrent stroke with adjusted HR 3,15 (CI 95%: 2, 15-4,62) and 1,78 (CI 95% : 1,00-3,22). Conclusion: As uncontrolled hypertension may be considered to be a significant prognostic factor for recurrent stroke taking antihypertensive agent and have his blood pressure checked regularly is warranted in this patient.Keyword: recurrent stroke, stroke, uncontrolled hypertension
