- Acne or pimple is a chronic skin disorder that can be caused by chronic inflammation of pilosebaceous unit. Since many years ago, the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris have been studied. There are four major factors that can cause acne vulgaris, such as follicular epidermal hyperproliferation, excess sebum production, inflammation, and the presence and activity of Propionibacterium acnes. Recent studies of acne vulgaris showed showed other factors that may involve in acne vulgaris. Genetic, cigarettes, PPAR ligand, neuropeptide, and high carbohydrate and milk diet are factors that can be involved in the process.
