Outcome of Primary Angle Closure Glaucoma Management in Indonesian Population

- This study evaluated the result of Primary Angle Closure Glaucoma (PACG) management performed to Malay ethnic in Indonesia. This is a cross sectional study. The data was collected from medical records starting from January 2006 until August 2009 and observed during six month period. The subjects’ mean age was 59 (40-88) year and 70% of all subjects were female. This study assessed final intraocular pressure (IOP) as the result of glaucoma management in 117 eyes from 92 PACG patients. There are 80 eyes in advanced stage and 37 eyes in mild to moderate stage of glaucoma. Several forms of glaucoma management had been done according to subjects’ stages of glaucoma. Laser Peripheral Iridotomy (LPI) was performed in 23 eyes, trabeculectomy in 32 eyes, phacoemulsification+IOL in 24 eyes, and combined phacoemulsification+ IOL-trabeculectomy in 38 eyes. The IOP of all subjects six months after surgery was less than 15 mmHg (43%), less than 21 mmHg (76%) and more than 21 mmHg (24%). There are various management in PACG eyes. Factors such as the stages of glaucoma, coexist ing cataract, medical conditions, and degree of IOP all contribute to the selection of procedure.
