- Pesantren is the icon of Islamic education institutions in Indonesia which is loaded with local values simultaneously superiority. The durability of boarding to the situation and condition had been proven. Currently, MEA being welcomed to be immediately implemented. The existence and contribution of schools were still awaited and taken into account. MEA is focused on the economic aspects but the impact will certainly be felt in other areas, one of which is education. Competition, excellence and quality be a precondition of readiness to meet MEA. The three also seriously prepared by formal education institutions (read: school). On the other hand, the discussion was identified boarding educational institutions that focus on akhlak karimah appropriate parental expectations. Many people choose a boarding school as an educational institution that is believed to be able to help them in shaping the akhlak karimah is one indicator. If it is based on this, it is very natural that graduates of the schools sanctioned to participate actively in the MEA which will take effect in 2016. For that reason this paper attempts intended to build a positive image that any of pesantern (modern or Salaf) can still take part in any situation and condition. Everything is because the core values of pesantren very strong and timeless. This paper tries to identify the core values boarding schools that can be used in the face of development, one MEA. The study was carried out by combining two methods of both literature and concrete examples in the field. Both are intended to further strengthen the existence of pesantren as institutions that are promoting excellence.
