- The experiment was carried out to determinate the effect of kinds of soil and growth media toward the seedling’s growth of Khaya anthotheca. This research was conducted in Karangrejo, Sumbersari, Jember on 218 m asl. from August up to November 1996. It applied Complete Randomized Design in factorial experiment with three replications by five samples on eachs. The first factor was the medium composition (sand, sand:faeces manure =1:1, and sand:compost). For the differential test of treatment, it was applied the Duncan 5% test. Results of the experiment indicated that interaction of kind of soil and growth medium was significant on all parameters, except to the dry weight seedling. The combination of latosol-sand-compost give the best result on height and stem diameter of seedling. The compost medium significantly improved the dry weight of seedling. The highest leafs total was on alluvial-and-faeces manure. How ever, the longest of toot was on grumosol-sand.
