- The purpose of this study was to design the strategy and implementation program from the business portfolio analysis based on their internal and external factors. The other aim of this study was to create the key success factor to evaluate all strategies and programs implementation. All data were collected directly from the market since the year of 1998 to 2002, literatures and questioners. The quantitative and qualitative data were compiled with BCG and GE matrix. Functional Polymer Division is one of BASF's divisions as a chemical company has 5 Strategic Business Unit (SBU). There are SBU EDS for paper industry, SBU EDC for chemical construction industry, SBU EDA for paint industry, SBU EDK for adhesive industry and SBU EDT for textile non-woven industry. The main product is dispersion or latex synthetic that is produce locally. The result of the study showed every business unit has a different position in its market and has a different market situation. Resources allocation should be focused to chemical construction. Maintain the current market share in the paper industry business unit as the market leader in the stagnant market and operational efficiency should be implemented in the textile non-woven business unit. To increase the market share in paint and adhesive industry by developing new product more competitive. The main internal key success factors are market share, technical support and customer relationship. The main external key success factors are market size, market growth and price of the product. To design the customer portfolio in each business unit and customer satisfaction strategy are suggested to increase the long - term company profitability.
