- The arrival of Islam in Makassar was first marked by the arrival of Muslim Malays merchants. Portuguese sources and Makassar reported that since the beginning of the sixteenth century merchants Malays have become a Muslim and had settled in Makassar and other places on the coast of West Sulawesi. In about the year 1512 the two kingdoms of Gowa Makassar twins and Tallo already have trade relations with the Malacca Islamic broadcasting center.
