The Correlation between Students' Personality (Extrovert and Introvert) and Their Reading Achievement

- This study aimed to find out the correlation between students' personality and their reading achievement at the fifth semester students of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta. The method used in this study was a quantitative research and the design was a correlational design. The population of this research was 3 classes from the fifth semester students of department of English education. 5A was taken to examine the validity of the questionnaire while the others became the sample of the study. 5A consisted of 20 students and the sums of 5B and 5C were 40 students. The study was conducted by distributing personality questionnaire and 25 multiple-choice reading test. The data collected were analyzed by using SPSS v.22, the correlation formula by Pearson Product-Moment Correlation. After analyzing, the result of this research showed that there was no correlation between students' personality and reading achievement. According to the result of statistical calculation, it could be seen that the correlation score was -0.162 smaller compared to rtable at the significant degree 5% (0.312). Thus, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was rejected and null hypothesis (H0) was accepted. In conclusion, students' personality did not influence their reading achievement.
