The effectiveness of using vocabulary notes on students? vocabulary mastery (a quasi experimental study at the first grade students of SMAN 10 South Tangerang)

  • The objective of this study is to see whether the use Vocabulary Notes Technique is effective on students? vocabulary mastery at the first grade students? of SMAN 10 South Tangerang. This study was held in March until April 2015 at SMAN 10 South Tangerang. The method used in this study was quantitative method and research design was quasi-experimental study. The sampling technique used in this study was cluster sampling. The sample of this study was 60 students taken from the first grade of SMAN 10 South Tangerang, which are 30 students as experiment class and 30 students as controlled class. In collecting the data, the writer conducted post-test about vocabulary test which is consisted of 35 items of test. The gained score of pre-test and post-test in the experimental class was 29.75 and for the controlled class was 6.67. The testing of hypothesis was analyzed using t-test formula. The result of this study shows that there is significance difference on students? achievement in mastering vocabulary that is taught by using Vocabulary Notes Technique. In the table of significance, it can be seen on the df =58 and in significant degree or α (alpha) 5% was 2.00. Then, the t-test score was 2.48. By comparing the value to is bigger than tt, that is 2.48>2.00 or the t-test>t-table, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Therefore it can be concluded that Vocabulary Notes Technique is effective on students vocabulary mastery at the first grade of SMAN 10 South Tangerang.
