- This study aims to examine whether there is influence of parenting style, peer influence, and personality on smoking behavior in adolescent. The sample questionnaire measuring instrument charging as much as 207 students of Triguna Utama Vocational School, composed of students of class X, XI, and XII, who had or still smoking. A total of 149 male students still smoke, while 58 boys had ever smoked. The sampling technique used was nonprobability sampling. Instruments in this study using a modified scale of Glover Nilsson Smoking Behavioral Questionnaire (GN-SBQ), Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ), Abbreviated Form of the Revised Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQRA), while peer influence using a measuring instrument that is made by author who refers to the kinds of friendships by Ormrod (2009). Data analysis methods used in this study is the technique of multiple regression using SPSS 17.0 and construct validity testing using Lisrel 8.70. The results showed that there was a significant effect of parenting style, peer influence and personality on smoking behavior in adolescent. Minor hypothesis test showed that the permissive parenting style, peer influence, and psychotics affect the smoking behavior. While the authoritative parenting style and neurotics negatively affect significantly to the smoking behavior. Whilst authoritarian and eskstraversion does not affect the smoking behavior on adolescent. The author hopes that the implications of these results can be reviewed and may be developed in future studies. For example, by adding other variables related to smoking behavior that may have a major influence on the smoking behavior as influence of the media, the social environment, life style, stress, parents who smoke, and self-esteem.
