- This study carried out to analyze and to classify the types of error and the causes of error made by the students on using plural nouns in writing descriptive paragraph. The errors collected are classified based on the Surface Taxonomy Strategy. Besides, the purpose of this study were to find out the types of error and to find out the causes of error which students made on using plural nouns in writing descriptive paragraph. The method used in this study was descriptive. The descriptive design applied in this study was study case. Furthermore, the respondent of this study were the third grade students of MTs Ummul Quro Islamic Boarding School Bogor which consist of 54 students but it was only take 31 students as the respondent for the types of error and 10 students as the respondent for the causes of error. The data were collected through test. The purpose of this study was to know the types of error based on Dulays� theory and the causes of error based on James� theory made by the students. The results of the error analysis process showed that students commit errors into four types: omission, addition, misformation and misordering. From the highest frequency was omission, which consists of 189 errors or 74.70%. The last was causes of error; Intralingual errors got 48 errors or 57.83% from the causes of error that the writer found in students� writing
