- In the research, the writer analyzes about a novel The Last Chinese Chef written by Nicole Monez. The writer analyzes the live of Sam Liang, one of the main characters in the novel. The research focuses on the main character, especially about the needs and the ways to fulfill and satisfy the needs. The analysis uses the theory of character and the hierarchy of need theory by Abraham Maslow. In the research the writer uses descriptive qualitative method. The result of the research is that the character has two needs which are not fully satisfied; those are love and belongingness need and self-actualization needs. The love and belongingness need which is not well satisfied is from his father. Then Sam�s self actualization that he wants to fulfill is to be a Chinese chef. The needs can be fulfilled through his moving to China and learning cooking there from his uncle.
