  • The objective of this study was to know the empirical evidence about the effectiveness of Self-Questioning technique on students? reading of narrative text at the eleventh grade of SMAN 10 Kota Tangerang. The method used in this research was a quasi experimental design. The population was all students of eleventh grade of SMAN 10 Kota Tangerang with the total number 388 students. The cluster random sampling technique was applied in choosing the sample. The sample was 78 students which were divided into two classes, namely experiment and control class. The data were obtained through pretest and posttest. They were then analyzed by using t-test formula to see the effectiveness of Self-Questioning Technique on students? reading of narrative text. The findings showed that the value of to in experimental group posttest was 6.63 with degree of freedom 76 in the significance degree (?) of 5%, ttable was 2.00. It indicated that, to > ttable (to was higher than ttable). As the result, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Then, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted that there was a significant difference of students? narrative reading achievement between them who read by using Self-Questioning technique and without Self- Questioning technique.
