  • Vocabulary learning is an intrinsic part of language teaching. One way to add new words to one�s vocabulary is by locating words in the dictionary and learning what they mean. But this is a slow process to increase word power. Another way is learning through vocabulary card or flash card. This study tries to describe the use of Vocabulary Cards in teaching Vocabulary, especially in teaching noun. Specifically this study aims to describe the process of teaching vocabulary by using Vocabulary Cards, to find out the effectiveness of using Vocabulary Cards and the students� response towards the implementation of vocabulary cards in teaching vocabulary. AnAction Research design was implemented to find the answer to the above questions. One class of the seventh grade of Junior High School at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Salafiyah Bedahan Sawangan Depok was chosen as the sample of this study. The study was conducted in November to December 2011. To find out students� vocabulary knowledge, they were given a pre-test at the beginning of the study and post test at the end of the study. The data were collected from Vocabulary pre test-post test and interview. The analysis of differences between the result of pre-test and post test was used to answer the research questions. The result of calculation between thepre-test and post test indicates the effect of Vocabulary Card is significant. This can be seen from the result that the percentage of the the students who pass the minimum mastery criterion (KKM) is 86 % with the improvement of the students� score from pre-test to post test 2 is 77.78%.Hence, it was concluded that the contribution of vocabulary flash card in teaching vocabulary to students led to a higher level of vocabulary improvement.Moreover, the vocabulary cards has value in teaching vocabulary. This is supported by students� responses to its implementation. The students were more active and interested in learning vocabulary. Finally, this study is still far from being perfect; therefore, the writer invites all concerned people who have interest in this field to do similar research for improving the quality of the English teaching and learning in Indonesia
