The correlation between students? habit in listening english songs and their listening ability (a correlational study at eighth grade of SMP N 2 Tangerang Selatan)

  • This study is aimed to find the correlation in students? ability from their habit in listening to English songs, whether it is high or low correlation in the eighth grade students of SMP N 2 TANGERANG SELATAN. The limitation of problem in this research focuses on the problem about students who didn?t like to listen English songs have lower achievement in listening than those who like to listen English songs. The method used in this study was quantitative method, and the design of this study was correlational study. Furthermore, the instruments of the study were questionnaire about students? habit in listening to English songs and listening test. The subjects of this study were 80 students of eighth grade of SMP N 2 TANGERANG SELATAN which were taken by purposive sampling. To analyze the data, the writer used Pearson Product Moment formula. The result showed that there is moderate correlation between students? habit in listening English songs and their listening ability. From the result, it is known that the result has coefficient correlation 0.541. Based on table of level correlation, 0.541 is between 0.40 ? 0.70.
