An analysis on students� error in the use of quantity words (a case study in the first grade of Mts Al-Ikhwaniyah Pondok Aren Tangerang Selatan)

  • This research was carried out to find the most common errors made by the First Grade students of MTs Al-Ikhwaniyah in using quantity words. Thesubject of this study was consisted of 30 students of the First Grade MTs Al-Ikhwaniyah which was taken by purposeful sampling. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative method to describe students� errors and analyze the data by using formula: P = F/N X 100 %, P=Percentage, F=Frequency of errors made, N=Total of students� error. To collect the data, the writer gave a test on quantity words consisting of 15 items to find the common errors made by the students.The findings of the research state that the students� error in using many/much with 59 errors or 33.71 %, some/any with 42 errors or 24.00 %,a little/a few with 74 errors or 42.29 %. In conclusion, the most common errors on the use of quantity words was on the use of �a little/a few�.It may occur because they did not understand to differentiate the usage of �Many/Much, Some/Any, and A Few/A Little�. Those errors caused by intralingual transfer
