- This study aimed to know the improvement of students� reading comprehension of recount text through collaborative learning in the second grade of SMPN 1 Kresek class VIII-D academic year 2012/2013. The research method used in the study is classroom action research that follows the design of Stephen Kemmis and Robin Mc.Taggart. The research is done in two cycles. Subject in this study isthe second grade of SMPN 1 Kresekclass VIII-D academic year 2012/2013. The number of students are 40. Two techniques used in collecting data are qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative data consists of observation and interview. The quantitative data uses test. The finding of this study are: 1. There 95% 0r 38 of 40 students that are pass the KKM. 2. In the result of observations the students more motivated and active in learning reading activity in the classroom through collaborative learning. 3. Related to interview result, it can be seen that the students� reading comprehension of recount text has been improved and teacher is help in finding the appropriate method in teaching reading recount text
