The correlation between students' vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension (a correlational study in the second years of MA Islamiyah Ciputat, Tangerang)

  • The objective of this study is to know correlation between students� vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension. The writer conducted the research for the students at the second year of MA Islamiyah Ciputat. The population this school is 56 students� and all of the students� is as sample in this research. In collecting the data, the writer used testing technique. In this research the writer divided the test into two types; the first is vocabulary test and second is reading test. The instrument used in this study is an objective test, and the writer used one type of objective teacher made test, which is multiple-choice type. In addition this study also used the correlation method, with the analysis of Product Moment according to Karl Pearson. It is usually used to correlate two variables based on it correlation coefficient value. The result of statistical calculation, the formula r (ro) is 0, 74 and ttable 0, 273. Therefore, ro is higher than tt (ttable) or ro > tt. The coefficient correlation (r) is at level 0, 70 � 0, 90. Based on the result above it can be concluded that there is significant correlation between students� vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension
