An analysis of the students� grammatical error in conditional sentence type 2 in their grammatical test (a case study at the tenth grade students of SMK Islamiyah Ciputat)

- This research is aimed to analyze the grammatical errors made by the students in their grammatical test in terms of coditional sentence type 2. To analyze the errors, the researcher made a test about conditional sentence type 2 and gave it to the tenth grade students of SMK Islamiyah Ciputat. In this research, the researcher used the descriptive analysis method. The researcher analyzed the tests that had been given to the students, to find out the kind of errors that the students did most in their tests. The researcher described the number of errors in the table form as the recapitulation of the errors that the students have made. The population is the tenth grade students of SMK Islamiyah Ciputat for academic year 2011 � 2012, which consist of two classes with the total student 75. For the sake of the research, the researcher took a half or 50% of population as sample. So, she only took one class that is the X TKJ 1 class with the total number of sample 38 students. The technique that the researcher used in taking the sample is purposive sampling technique. After conducting the research, the researcher got the data which showed the error that the students do most in their grammatical test in terms of conditional sentence type 2 is �verb tense� with the percentage of the error is 62.95%. Then, it is followed by �meaning not clear� with the percentage of the error is 27.16%, �add a word� with the percentage of the error is 4.86%, �spelling� with the percentage of the error is 3.05%, �omit a word� with the percentage of the error is 1.62%, and the less percentage of error made by the students is 0.36% for �word order�. The grammatical errors that the students made might be caused by three factors; they are inter-lingual transfer, intra-lingual transfer, and context of learning. There are 27 or 4.86% grammatical errors that are caused by interlingual transfer, 465 or 83.63% grammatical errors caused by intra-lingual transfer, and 64 or 11.51% grammatical errors caused by context of learning
