- This study is purposed to find out the correlation between students� motivation in learning English and their speaking achievement at first semester of academic year 2009 at Department of English Education, Faculty of Tarbiya and Teachers� Training, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah, Jakarta. This research is using quantitative approach. The techniques of collecting data are questionnaires and students� speaking scores. The findings of the study states that (1) there is correlation between students� motivation in learning English and their speaking achievement; (2) the students who have high motivation in learning English will get better speaking achievement than those who have low motivation in learning English. It means that motivation in learning English affects students� speaking achievement. The writer also gives suggestion to the students about how to improve their motivation in learning English and the way to increase speaking achievement.
