- The research aims to describe the non-observance of conversational maxim which leads to implicature and the effect of the non-observance in communication process. The unit analysis of the research is dialogue conversation in Oprah Winfrey Show on Lance Armstrong episode. The methodology used in this research is descriptive qualitative method based on related theory of cooperative principle by Grice. In analyzing the data, the researcher describes the context of situation behind the dialogue, the process of non-observance of conversational maxim and interprets the implicature that appeared, and also describes effect of the nonobservance in communication process. This research found, that the analyzed data were about thirty two non-observance of conversational maxims which consist of flouting the maxim of manner were thirteen items, the maxim of quantity were nine items, the maxim of relevance were eight items, and the maxim quality were two items. All of the nonobservance make the process of communication disrupted and does not run smoothly.
