- The objective of the research was found out the effectiveness of reciprocal technique on students? reading ability of narrative text at the eleventh grade students? of SMAN 90 Jakarta academic year 2013/2014. Reciprocal technique covers four strategies, they are generating question, clarifying, summarizing, and predicting. The method in this research was quasi-experimental research. The quasi-experimental research designed were used two classes which were taught two different techniques. The experiment class was taught with reciprocal technique, and the controlled class was taught without reciprocal technique. The populations in eleventh grade students of SMAN 90 consist of 360 students; the sample was 80 students (40 students? experimental class and 40 students controlled class). The research was taken by using simple random sampling. Moreover, this research was conducted through the following procedures: giving pretest, applying treatments, and giving posttest. The data analyzed in this research was gathered through test, after getting the score from the test, it was analyzed and processed by using statistic data calculation of T-test formula by using SPSS. The result of the research proved that there was a difference score between students? score in learning reading ability of narrative text by using reciprocal technique and without using reciprocal technique according to the result of statistical calculation it can be seen that mean of gained score of the experiment class is 82, 77 and the mean of gained score of controlled score of controlled class is 79, 25. In conclusion, reciprocal technique can effectively be used to teach reading ability of narrative text of eleventh grade students of SMAN 90 Jakarta.
