  • I use The Mechanic movie as the corpus of my research. I focus on two kinds; firstly, the implicatures of the utterances expressed by Arthur Bishop in his conversation with Harry McKenna; and secondly, how is the process of the implicature occurred in their conversation. The purpose of this research is to get more vocabularies of language in Pragmatics, especially in the theory of implicature and speech act. Besides that, the output of this research is provided to give a practical understanding of implicature in the communication. Lastly, the student can have a good understanding in the concept of implicature and an ability to identify the purpose of a speech, depend on the situation and the condition. In this study, I collect the data by using the following steps: by watching the movie of The Mechanic especially in the scene of trapping Harry McKenna that Arthur Bishop made, making the list of conversation and its implicatures, analyzing the utterances with the theoretical frameworks which are taken from some relevant references. In analyzing the data, I use the qualitative method and descriptive analysis technique. According to the result of research findings, Arthur Bishop as the speaker made all of his utterance to Harry McKenna as the hearer with the specific purposes ? that is to trap Harry McKenna, by creating the implicatures that are capable of being worked out and understood. The expressions with context of implicatures in Arthur Bishop?s utterance are shown in the table 1, and the process of the implicatures that occur in the conversation are able to be understanding worked out by using the theories of Pragmatics, such as Implicature to understand the term of implicature itself, Grician maxims to check the implicature, and the speaker?s task viewed in the means-ends analysis by Geoffrey Leech to check the purpose of the utterance.
