The effect of tongue twisters on students' pronunciation

The aim of this research was to obtain the empirical evidence about the effect of tongue twister on students? pronunciation. The method used in this research was a quantitative method and the research design was a quasi-experimental. The sample of this research was the eighth grade students of SMP Islam Al Fikri, Bekasi academic year of 2019/2020. There are control and experimental group. Each group consisted of 10 students. The experimental class was taught with tongue twister video while the control class was taught with audio story. For sampling technique the researcher used purposive sampling. The instrument used in this research was an oral test and the scoring of pronunciation rubric was used to score the students' pronunciation on the pre-test and post-test. Based on the calculation, the post-test mean scores of the experimental class was 84 while that of the control class was 73.5. Then, the result of statistical hypothesis testing by using independent sample t-test found that on degree of significance 5% (a= 0.05), tobserve was 2.178 while t table was 2.100 or t-observe > t table. Therefore, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. Furthermore, the Cohens formulation was used in order to know the effect size of tongue twisters video and the result was 0.30. It proved that tongue twisters video have an effect on students' pronunciation at the eighth grade of students SMP Islam Al Fikri Bekasi in the academic year of 2019/2020.
