The Relationship among students? motivation, vocabulary retention, and writing ability of descriptive text (A Correlational Study at MTs Pontren Manbaul Ulum Cirebon, Academic Year 2021/2022)

- This research was aimed at investigating and explaining the relationship among the variables: (1) students? motivation (X1) and writing ability of descriptive text (Y), (2) students? vocabulary retention (X2), and writing ability of descriptive text(Y), and (3) students? motivation, vocabulary retention and writing ability of descriptive text . The population of this research consisted of 87 students of MTs Pontren Manbaul Ulum in the 2021/2022 academic year. A random sampling technique was used to take the sample. The sample was 30 students. The research instruments were students? motivation test, vocabulary retention test, and writing ability of descriptive text test. This research used regression and correlation analysis to find out the relationship among the variables. The results indicated that (1) there was a relationship between students? motivation and writing ability of descriptive text with correlation coefficient value 0.562, (2) there was a significant relationship between students? vocabulary retention and writing ability of descriptive text with correlation coefficient value 0.476, and (3) there was a relationship among students? motivation, vocabulary retention, and writing ability of descriptive text with the multiple correlation coefficient 0.724. It can be concluded that there was a relationship between the three variables, and the relationship was categorized as a strong enough relationship because the contribution of those variables was 52.4%. Therefore, this research suggested that the importance of increasing students? motivation and vocabulary retention. All of these implications contributed to improving students? writing ability
