  • This research is conducted to find the empirical evidence whether there is any significance difference of students? achievement who are taught simple past tense by using Student Teams-Achievement Division (STAD) and those who are taught simple past tense without usingSTAD. In this research, the writer uses a quasiexperimental study that he compares two classes of AD-DA?WAH Junior High School which is located on Duri Kosambi-Cengkareng. The first class as the experimental class is taught simple past tense by using STAD. While for the second class as the control class is taught simple past tense without usingSTAD or just using conventional teaching method. The writer gives a pre-test first, and thenimplements the treatment, and the last gives a post-test to obtain the data in this research. The data collected and analyzed by using t-test formula. According to the result of statistical calculation, for the experiment class, Mpre-test is44, Mposttest is 61.92, and Mgained score is 17.92. Meanwhile for the control class, Mpre-test is 41.76, Mpost-test is 53.44, and Mgained score is 11.68. Besides, t-observation (to) is 6.87and t-table (tt) at significance level of 5% is2.011. Soit can be seen that tobservation (to) is higher than t-table (tt) or 6.87 > 2.011. It means that there is a significant difference of students? achievement who are taught simple past tense by using STAD and those who are taught simple past tense without using STAD. In conclusion, teaching simple past tense byusing STAD is effective and applicable at the eight grade students? of AD-DA?WAH Junior High School, Duri Kosambi-Cengkareng.
