  • This research focused on the spelling, punctuation, and grammatical error found in the abstract of students’ paper of UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten in academic year 2018/2019. There are two research questions formulated in this research, they are 1) What are the spelling and punctuation errors found in 10 best’s abstract of English department students’ papers at UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten? and 2) What are the types of grammatical errors found in 10 best’s abstract of English department students’ papers at UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten? This research is a qualitative descriptive research that analyze the abstract students’ paper of English department at UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten, using an technique analysis proposed by Ellis (2005). There are 100 errors found in the abstract of students’ paper. The errors are classified into three types of errors: spelling, punctuation, and grammatical error. This research found 25 (25%) error in spelling, 9 (9%) errors in punctuation, and 66 (66%) errors found in grammatical error. The findings of the research indicate that the students’ abstracts lacked precision and accuracy in terms of language usage. It can be inferred that the students need a deeper understanding to achieve language convention mastery.
