  • This research investigates the students’ difficulties in reading comprehension especially on narrative text in the title of this research paper that is “An Analysis of Students’ Difficulties in Reading Comprehension on Narrative Text”. The research is conducted based on the main problems (1) How many percentages of students’ difficulties are made by the students in reading comprehension on narrative text? (2) Why the students have difficulties in reading comprehension on narrative text?. In reference to the afro-mentioned research problem, this research is aimed at (1) To know how many percentages of students’ difficulties are made by the students in reading comprehension on narrative text. (2) To know why the students have difficulties in reading comprehension on narrative text. To answer the question, the subject of the research is students of second grade in MA Sholatiyah Petir-Serang. The method of this research is qualitative method. Technique of collecting the data by using 25 multiple choice questions as the instrument which have correlation with levels of reading comprehension and also support with interview from the students. The data are analyzed by using qualitative analysis. The result of this research shows there are some difficulties that the students still find in reading comprehension on narrative text. The difficulties that students have can be seen from their result. The students’ difficulties in Literal Comprehension is 27.31% and categorized into Low Level, The students’ difficulties in Inferential Comprehension is 30.38% and categorized into Low Level. The students’ difficulties in Critical Comprehension is 40.77% and categorized into Medium Level. So, the finding that the students’ difficulties are on highest level, namely Critical Comprehension that is 40.77%. It because in this level require a high level of interaction between information from the text, the reader, perhaps other people with whom the reader has interacted, or even other texts the reader has read. Moreover, in-depth analysis and critical thinking are necessary to make informed judgments and evaluations. Because responses to inferential and critical-level questions are highly dependent on the reader’s own background, interest, and disposition, determining a reader’s level and the quality of a reader’s inferential and critical comprehension is not easy.
