  • This research investigates the students performance in pronouncing English diphthong. It focuses in the title of research “An Anlaysis of Student’s Performance in Pronouncing English Diphthong”. This research using case study to get th e data . The writer conducted based on the statements problem are: 1) what is the most difficult diphthong pronounec by students ? 2) What factors cause student produce errors in pronouncing English diphthong ? In reference to the mentioned research proble m, the objectives of this research are: 1) To find out the most difficult diphthong pronounced by students . 2) To find out the factors cause students produce errors in pronouncing English diphthong. To answer the question, the respondent of this research i s students of the second grade of MA AL - ISHLAH Kananga, Pandeglang - Banten. The writer took 25 students for sample research. The writer use qualitative research. The data is gat hered through test and questionnaire . The result of the research shows that The students of MA A L - ISHLAH did not have good ability in pronouncing diphthong. Most of student did not could produce all words correctly. The most difficult diphthong pronounced by student is / a ʊ / and /a ɪ /. This can be seen from total percentage error in pro nouncing diphthong. All of students make errors in words: House, Owl, Doubts, Loud, Shout, night and Climbed. T he most dominant factor of students’ error was internal factor. The students of MA Al - ISHLAH have low motivation in learning pronounciation. Stud ents’ knowledge in pronounciation is low . It can be seen that students did not know the kind of English sounds and also diphthongs. In addition to, they cannot pronounce diphthongs correctly. They consider that pronouncing diphthong is difficult and diphth ong is unfamiliar. They also did not use it in daily conversation. They also less consentration in learning pronouncation .
