- Writing is an important form of communication in day-to-day life, but it is especially important in secondary school or university. Writing is also one of the most difficult skills to master in both a first language and a second language. In writing process many things that students should be learned when they write English such as about grammatical rules of writing. Based on that case above, the writer do the research to investigates in writing descriptive text, especially it is written in the title of this research paper that is “The Analysis of students’ error on subject verb agreement in descriptive text writing” (A Case Study at the second grade students of SMPN 1 MekarBaru Kab. Tangerang). The research is conducted above based on main problems 1) How is the writing ability of the second grade students of SMPN 1 Mekar Baru Kab.Tangerang in writing descriptive text? 2) What kind of writing error commonly made by the second grade student of SMPN 1 Mekar Baru Kab. Tangerang in using subject verb agreement? 3) Why did students at the second grade of SMPN 1 Mekar Baru Kab.Tangerang make the errors in writing Descriptive text in using subject verb agreement? Based on the research question above, the researcher has several objectives of the research as following: 1) To know the students’ abilities in writing descriptive text 2) To find out the most errors did by the students on subject-verb agreement in Descriptive text writing. 3) To know the cause of errors made by the students on subject-verb agreement in descriptive text writing. This research uses case study method. The researcher uses purposive sampling by taking 32 samples from two-class population. The technique of collection data is test and iii interview. The researcher gives the test for them to write descriptive text about person and place. The interview is a process to know what the reason of the students make error on subject-verb agreement in writing descriptive text. The r esult of this research shows that students make error on subject verb agreement based on types of error: 1) Omission error. In this case, there are 118 errors or 35.11 % 2) Addition errors there are 38 errors or 11.30%. 3) Misformation error, there are 163 errors or 48.51% 4) Misordering error, there are 17 errors or 5.05%. In reference to the result of the study, the researcher finds the error of students in writing are: omission, addition, misformation and misordering but the highest error of students is in misformation error.
