  • This research investigated The Effectiveness of Using Short Story on Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at The Eight Grade of MTsN Ciwandan. English is one of subject that must be studied by all students as the international language. Vocabulary is one of the most important elements of language, in this case English that should given more attention. As we know, without vocabulary nothing can be conveyed. The research is conducted based on the main problems: 1) How is the students’ vocabulary mastery at the Eight grade of MTsN Ciwandan?.2)How is short stories applied in teaching vocabulary?. 3) How is the effect of short stories on students’ vocabulary mastery?. This research aimed at 1) To know the students’ vocabulary mastery at The Eight Grade of MTsN Ciwandan. 2). To know the application of short stories in teaching vocabulary. 3) To know the effect of short stories on students’ vocabulary mastery. To answer question, the writer collect data from 84 students at 8th grade of MTsN Ciwandan with population is 220 students. The writer used an experiment method, which take two groups as experimental class and control class, Pre- test Post-test, and using quantification data. The conclusion of the research is that there is the effectiveness of Using Short Stories on Students’ Vocabulary Mastery. It can be seen from the result that researcher has gotten the average score of tobservation= 6.96 and ttable= 1.99 and 2,65 with the level significant of 5% or 1%. So to is bigger than tt, it shows the technique is effective. Keywords :Short Story, English Learning and Vocabulary.
